the morning you will be awakened at your Antigua hotel, and will load
onto a shuttle bus to the airport in Guatemala City. The
to Tikal departs at 6:45 AM. Once checked in at the ticket
counter, there are snack shops at the airport, including an ever
present McDonalds where a quick breakfast will be supplied.
The plane will arrive at Mundo Maya International Airport in Santa Elena at 7:45 AM and at 8:00 AM the tour will be whisked away in vans for the 45 minute ride to the “Parque Nacional Tikal” and The Jungle Lodge "Hotel Posada de la Selva".
This hotel is located inside the national park and affords easy walking access to the various monuments and temples, so that during your free time, a world of personal exploration will be at your beck and call.
After checking into the Hotel Jungle Lodge, there will be a morning guided tour under the auspice of Group Bilingual Tikal Tour with a Certified Tikal Guide. At the end of the tour, there will be lunch at Restaurante El Meson. In the afternoon, you will be free to explore the hotel grounds, and those parts of Tikal that caught your eye during the guided tour.
Tikal has been declared a Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The ruins of Tikal include more than 3,000 structures extending over six square miles and including palaces, temples, ceremonial platforms, ball courts, terraces, plazas, avenues and steam baths. The ancient Maya began building Tikal around 600 B.C., and for the next 1500 years the area was an important religious, scientific, and political center.
One must be ready to leave the hotel at 2:30 PM in order to catch the 4:00 flight back to Guatemala City.
The flight from Tikal arrives in Guatemala City at 5:15 PM, where you will board the bus for the ride to Lake Atitlan and Hotel Nuestro Sueno. For those that are hungry, the bus will pause along the way and pick up some snacks for the trip. A late dinner buffet will be waiting upon your arrival at the Hotel.
