Day 7 - A Day Trip to Chichicastenango

The day begins with breakfast of your choice, after which the participants will board vans for a trip to Chichicastenango (“Chichi”).  Located in the highlands above Lake Atitlan, Chichi is home to one of the country’s largest and most renowned native marketplaces.

Lunch will feature a tasting of native foods and dishes.
On the edge of this large market area is the ancient Church of Santo Tomas. Mayan Shamans still use the church steps for their rituals, burning incense and candles and in special cases to sacrifice a chicken for the gods. Each of the 18 stairs that lead up to the church stands for one month of the Mayan calendar year. The Mayan calendar has 18 month of 20 days each.

The group will board the vans around 3:00 PM for the trip back to Antigua.
